On FRIENDSHIP
“You become who you surround yourself with” friends have always been one of the most important things in my life. I’ve had my best memories and some of my most valuable lessons with these people that I call my family. It also helps to have people who drag me out of my house for late night adventures.
On FAMILY
I’ve been extremely blessed to grow up with a great family around me. Like every family we have had our fair share of struggles. Family has always been important to me, but the greatest lesson I learned was to grow out of the family. It’s important to have morals and principles but it’s even more important to learn them for yourself and find what works for your own personal interest. It usually results in coming back around to realizing why your parents have taught you these things, but some things you might find are better for your path.
On GENDER EQUALITY
I was very lucky to be raised by a mother who taught me right. She didn’t teach me by telling me what to think, she taught me by showing me the way with her actions. She loved when people would doubt her or think she didn’t belong doing something because it gave her the opportunity to prove them wrong. She would out smart, out work, out sell, and in the end out smile every single one of them. She never allowed anybody to tell her she couldn’t do something and I love that about her. Plus, she proved to me that women have always held the power. Moral of the story is, obstacles are inevitable but no matter the circumstances it always comes down to your actions. Prove anyone who doubts you wrong and smile while you do it 🙂
On SOCIAL MEDIA
Social media is like a knife. If it’s used to spread butter its very helpful, but if it’s used the wrong way it can become very harmful. It’s important to remember that you are in control and not the other way around. There are many benefits from social media, but time and time again people misuse it and blame social media for their miss-interpretations. People constantly compare, judge, manipulate, and hide behind their keyboards. It can be a very toxic place. I personally use it to benefit myself. I use it for communication, knowledge, and of course— entertainment. But it doesn’t hold the power to come into my life when I close the app.
On TECHNOLOGY
Technology has grown so fast it blows my mind. I’m nervous and excited for what the future holds. It’s crazy to think that there is no going back to the way things were— it’s only evolving in the tech world. I use technology as a tool, but it hasn’t taken over my life and I think that’s something I’ll keep with me forever.
On IMPORTANCE OF PERSONAL STYLE
Having personal style takes a lot of confidence. It seems these days we always get ideas from somewhere else. Having the courage to show what make you “YOU” is a very special thing. I’m learning more the older I get and being able to truly be myself was something I wish I learned at a younger age.
On CULTURAL DIVERSITY/ On racial fluidity
I’m well aware of the differences between cultural diversity and Racial Fluidity but my answer to both is the same— WE ARE ALL HUMAN. No matter the color of our skin or the style of life we choose. It truly breaks my heart seeing what’s happening in the world right now. I don’t know what it will take for us to understand we are all on the same team. One day we will get past this, I just hope we can communicate about it truthfully and find our answers quickly. We all share the same oxygen, we all rely on the sun, we all come from the same place and we need to start acting that way.
————————————————————————————————————————–What are you most excited about the release of “He’s All That”? Can you tell us about the filming experience and how it evolved from the beginning to the end?
I’m excited about a lot of things for the release but I’m most excited for all the “She’s All That” fans to be reconnected with some memories from the old film. Being a part of this movie was a crazy experience, we started filming in November so we had hardcore COVID restrictions. This made things very different. We couldn’t hang out and get to know each other before we started filming but once we took off we were all excited to be out of the house and back doing what we love. We had to quarantine during the filming so we couldn’t do anything between hours off. It was a very short production due to covid which made things a bit tricky but that just meant we had to be on our game every chance we got.
Why did you decide to audition for it? Do you recall that day? Describe.
I was playing golf with my buddy and I got the email for the audition. I read the breakdown of the role, the movie, and the people attached. I went home, read the script, and it all made sense. It was actually a perfect fit for the storyline. The only thing I doubted was my character. It was different than anything I’ve never done and I’ve always stayed far away from the dancing/singing roles. I sat on it for 2 days until it was audition time. When the day came, I woke up, started the audition on zoom, and right before I pushed join I had this crazy idea. The character is a cocky douchebag so I figured whatever, I’m on zoom, I’ll do it. I took my shirt off and started the audition. 2 weeks later I got the call.
In what ways does the film take on the original movie and how did it differ from it? What was your favorite scene to shoot?
It’s very different because the story is told during a different time and to a different audience. Also, the entire film is gender flipped so now it’s being told from the girls’ perspective but the story and a lot of funny moments will definitely be brought back. We had a night shoot for one of the big party scenes and worked until 4 in the morning. We were all delirious by the end but that day start to finish was definitely my favorite.
Have you always wanted to be an actor? Growing up, what did you dream of becoming? What pushed you towards this career?
No, I did not at all. I grew up wanting to be a professional baseball player. But when I turned 12 I said I don’t want to play baseball anymore, I want to be on tv. It’s funny when you try new things sometimes doors will open themselves because the puzzle pieces just fit better.
How did your other projects impact who you are as an actor?
*I did an episode on a project called “WAYNE” that taught me the most about acting. It was the first time in my career that the creator of the show had let me take the reins on the character. The free will to do what I wanted made me realize that this isn’t robotic, but a job where everything is alive at all times. Each character in my past has taught me so much and with each one I keep picking up lessons and building a better foundation.
Share with us a childhood story in which you learned a valuable lesson.
My childhood taught me a lot, mostly because I started working at a young age. But one of the most valuable lessons I learned was to appreciate something while you have it. Don’t wait until it’s gone to realize it was special.
What do you like to do when you are not acting? What is something most people do not know about you?
I love to travel as much as possible. I love learning new cultures and seeing different parts of our world. I also love to read which is hilarious because I used to hate it. But as I got older I realized that I didn’t hate reading I just hated what I had to read in school.
Where do you want to go next?
I want to do a lot but for now, I’m just livin’ day by day. I don’t know what the future holds but I’m sure some travel is in store.
